What a week! The weather hasn’t been so nice, but we’ve found a way to get out there so far! I want to take a quick moment to thank everyone for feeding these reports, and y’all’s continued support of Southern Country Charters! We love helping bring something to the Destin community in these reports, and we love taking y’all out on the water to fish!
Now for the good stuff: fishing. Weve been catching a ton of mingo and white snapper lately, but this week the bite has been a little slow. The weather and moon phases have played their part in this, but we’re stilling bringing in some good numbers despite the slower bite!
Other captains have been reporting nice amberjack closer to shore over some wrecks. We also just got word that the first king mackerel of the year was caught in PCB this week off of the pier! The water is warming up and we should see some more trolling activity in the coming weeks with the Spanish Mackerel arriving thick soon.
Lots of nice red snapper over the reefs right now, and some BIG sharks! We’ve caught a couple this week, and seen more. We even saw a mako shark cruising by and heard of others catching makos close to shore (the one I saw was only 5 miles from the beach!)
There was a thick run of blackfin this week that were caught at the okaloosa island pier. They’re still out there! We have also been getting more scamp grouper hook ups this week than we have been, so we expect to see their activity pick up some too! Good luck out there this weekend.
Tight lines y’all!
