From Captain Payton

Finally a week worth fishing!! (For the most part at least !) Sunday-Thursday turned out to be pretty nice weather for getting offshore, however the weather has kicked up for the weekend and we won’t be able to get off shore unless the forecast changes.

The mingo bite is as hot as ever! Natural bottom is holding tons of mingo and we are getting them on two hook rigs with cut bait, as usual. Black snapper have shown up a little more frequently over the reefs offshore, and there still plenty of white snapper to be caught as well.

The kings are hot! They’re chewing on live cigar minnows over natural bottom reefs right now. Tons of bait in the morning just outside of the pass!

The Spanish are still lighting it up inshore and near shore, and I don’t see that changing anytime soon!

Cobia are being brought back fairly frequently, and I expect to see more Cobia sitting on reefs and less surf fishing for them now that the typical migration time has passed us.

Only a couple of days until Amberjack season opens! We are super excited for that, lots of amberjack sitting on the wrecks out there. Jigging for amberjack is one of my favorite types of fishing!

RED SNAPPER SEASON DATES: The State Government has finally released our red snapper season for state waters, and it’s a good one! Gov. Ron Desantis came into town and announced the official dates at AJ’s on the Harbor. The dates are as follows: June 15- July 31st with extra weekends in the fall of Oct. 8-9 (Sat. & Sun)
Oct. 15-16 (Sat. & Sun)
Oct. 22-23 (Sat. & Sun)
Nov. 11-13 (Fri., Sat. & Sun – Veterans Day weekend)
Nov. 25-27 (Fri., Sat. & Sun – Thanksgiving weekend).

We will be completely full on all boats for every red snapper date available VERY quickly. We have limited summer dates available as is, so don’t wait too long to book with us! We would love to get y’all out there. We’re very excited for a long and fruitful red snapper season!

Tight lines y’all!
