From Captain Payton

That spring bite is getting HOT!

As you can see above, pretty much everything on the bottom is biting! The water temp is getting perfect, the days are getting longer, and the fishing has been stellar.

Vermillion are stacked up close right now, cut squid has been great for getting them. We’ve even found a few nice trigger fish in the mix later in their season.

Spanish mackerel have been biting pretty well. The bite comes in waves as the tides change. But definitely have some spoons and mackerel trees ready to go in the morning.

The kings are here. But not super thick just yet. It’s worth stopping for some live bait before you head out for sure. Do a little trolling on your reefs with live cigs or threadfin before you decide to drop.

A few mahi have been brought to the docks as well. We haven’t landed our first one of the season yet, but they were as close as 5 miles from the pass last week (maybe even closer) so be sure to stop on anything floating!

Summer is getting here fast, and it’s booking up quick! Be sure to book your snapper trip before we fill up.

Tight lines y’all!

  1. I will be headed down the week of Aug. 12-19. What type of fish could we expect to catch if we decide to book a charter?
